80 people were wounded in the Thursday attack and those in critical condition airlifted to Nairobi for further treatment. Others are receiving treatment at Garissa Level Five Hospital. Addressing press after the siege ended, Nkaissery condoled with the families of those who perished in the... attack. “I send my personal condolences to the families of those who have died in the attack”, the CS said. He added: “The National Youth Service will send buses to collect students tomorrow and take them to their homes”.
Nkaissery further said the Ministry of Education will communicate on the way forward. The siege lasted for 16 hours as security personnel battled the attackers who held students inside their hostels.
587 were students evacuated in the rescue operation. The institution is a constituent of Moi University and all the students were on session at the time of the attack.
Police have announced a curfew in four counties following the attacks that targeted Christian students.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett announced that Garissa, Tana River, Mandera and Wajir counties will be under dusk to dawn curfew starting Friday to April 16.
He addressed the press in Garissa town flanked by Interior CS Joseph Nkaissey and other local leaders.
